Welcome to KWC’s brand-new blog, KWConnect. We’re still working some of the kinks out, so not everything is functional yet, but we’ll be rolling along full-speed soon.

This is a big weekend for KWC. Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. is the inauguration of our 32nd president, Cheryl King, on the front lawn of the administration building. If you’re in town, please drop by to join us as we celebrate!

After the inauguration, a weekend of festivities kicks off celebrating Kentucky Wesleyan’s 150th anniversary. (Yes, we’re old.) Many alumni are coming in for the weekend and lots of events are open to the public as well, including a Carnival on the Quad, a KWC football game at 4:30 p.m. and a free concert and fireworks show just after the football game. Windstorm 2008

KWC sustained minimal damage from the windstorm that swept through Owensboro on Sunday:

With lots of small branches littering campus, nearly 50 students showed up on Monday evening to help clean things up. Thanks to SGA for organizing the event:

Hurricane Ike and KWC

As Hurricane Ike tracks across the Gulf of Mexico towards landfall in Texas, ripple effects are already being felt across the country.

From SID Roy Pickerell: ”Hurricane Ike has forced the cancellation of the Kentucky Wesleyan at Stephen F. Austin football contest that was set for Saturday in Nacogdoches, Texas. The hurricane is expected to hit Texas sometime this weekend. Both directors of athletics will explore the possibility of rescheduling the game this season.”

Remembering 9/11

Today marks the seventh anniversary of 9/11, the deadliest terrorist attack in American history. Memorial services are taking place around the country.

Kentucky Wesleyan will mark the occasion with a brief prayer vigil around the campus flagpole at noon, led by Campus Minister Kent Lewis. See you there.

Cory Wade Update

Last night in MLB action, Cory Wade ‘05 pitched two innings as the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 7-2. Wade allowed one run on no hits after entering the game with the bases loaded. “He’s been terrific, he really has,” said manager Joe Torre. Check out Wade’s stats in the box score.
